Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Baghaei said Iran has consistently acted in good faith to meet its international obligations, has never possessed or sought nuclear weapons, and considers this a core national principle. He said Iran engaged in good-faith negotiations on the nuclear issue and signed the 2015 JCPOA, but that the US withdrew three years later without justification and then imposed a series of hostile measures on the Iranian people. Baghaei accused the US government of adopting an Israeli-driven narrative of an "Iranian nuclear bomb" as a pretext for military aggression and threats to international peace, and called continued US repetition of the claim after assertions that Iran’s program had been dismantled an unprecedented act of diplomatic deception.
