Nikkei reported on 27 that Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and
Fisheries is preparing to repurchase part of the 590,000 tonnes of government
reserve rice scheduled for release in 2025. MAFF carried out a 210,000-tonne
buyback in September and is expected to add roughly 100,000 tonnes this time.
The government views an appropriate reserve at about 1 million tonnes; falling
reserves have raised food-security concerns.
