Previously, Iran's Tasnim News Agency published several strategic analyses and investigative reports, pointing out serious vulnerabilities in the Strait of Hormuz submarine fiber optic cables and regional internet infrastructure. Subsequently, some international media claimed that the bandwidth carried by the Strait of Hormuz submarine fiber optic cables is less than 1% of global internet bandwidth, and that even if these cables were cut, it would not affect the global internet.
However, Tasnim News Agency believes this data is misleading, a one-sided and oversimplified strategic argument intended to cover up the serious vulnerabilities in the network infrastructure of US regional allies. The media outlet claimed that the supposedly 1% of global internet bandwidth carried by the submarine fiber optic cables actually accounts for 70% to 90% of the critical connections relied upon by the digital economy, banking systems, cloud data centers, and communication networks of the Persian Gulf countries. The report specifically pointed out that these countries have opened their airspace to US military forces, therefore the vulnerability of their infrastructure is of significant strategic importance.
