The US Department of Justice is probing NVIDIA (NVDA.O)’s roughly $13bn deal to
acquire AI-model firm Hugging Face, sources said. The inquiry, part of broader
regulatory scrutiny of the chipmaker, is assessing how the transaction could
affect competition in the AI market. The DOJ’s separate, longer-running
investigation into NVIDIA’s commercial practices remains underway. NVIDIA
announced the deal in September and said it aims to protect the open-source
community; developers use Hugging Face to share models and data, and NVIDIA has
pledged to keep the platform open as part of the transaction.
