Samsung Electronics raised 2024 capital expenditure to 84.4 trillion won (≈$63bn), up about 60%, citing strong AI-infrastructure demand that has lifted memory prices. The semiconductor division reported operating profit of 106.5 trillion won for the quarter to September—a 15-fold jump but slightly below the analyst consensus of 108.5 trillion won; group net profit rose 39%. Shares fell as much as 5% in Seoul on Thursday morning. The earnings shortfall raises pressure on Samsung to deliver improved profitability, product-mix upgrades and long-term customer commitments, and to show technical progress on advanced memory (HBM4) amid fierce competition with SK Hynix.
