China has launched a national major science and technology project on brain
science and brain-inspired research, with a kickoff convened by the Beijing
Institute of Brain Science and Brain-inspired Research. The program funds
three projects: development and clinical translation of a flexible,
high-throughput semi‑invasive brain‑machine interface (BMI) system for
motor-function restoration; R&D and clinical application of implantable,
high‑density medical feedthroughs and system‑integration technologies for BMIs;
and multi‑region motor encoding/decoding and long‑term stable motor BMI system
research. Authorities say the projects will drive domestic innovation in
semi‑invasive BMI systems, feedthrough technology and motor‑control research and
strengthen China’s BMI R&D and clinical application capacity.
