The metals rout did not follow a stronger USD or higher Treasury yields — both the dollar and UST yields retraced — and occurred after a tech-led equity selloff drove flows into bonds, suggesting the falls may reflect liquidity-driven liquidation of highly liquid precious-metal positions. The gold/silver ratio rose to 79.4, underscoring silver’s larger decline versus gold.
