The two-day 21st Canada–EU summit ended Oct. 30 in Montreal with both sides
announced a new 'Future Alliance' to deepen their partnership. Prime Minister
Carney said Canada is seeking to become the EU’s first ‘co-member’, framing the
move as a response to rising geopolitical tensions and pressure from the United
States. Carney warned societies are facing 'trade weaponization', said the
alliance is not directed at any third party, and declined to say whether US
President Trump would be invited.
