At the Manama Dialogue security meeting in Bahrain, Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Shibani said discussions are underway to assess Syria joining the Mecca alliance — the joint defense agreement Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed in August. He said defending Gulf Arab states is vital to Syria’s security and that Syria will stand with all Gulf states, adding they face threats from cross‑border militia groups. Shibani gave no detail on whether support might include sending troops to Yemen; Damascus has previously denied reports Riyadh asked for Syrian deployments.

[Survey Shows Nearly 1,500 Food Items to Increase in Price in Japan This November] A recent survey in Japan shows that nearly 1,500 food items will see price increases this November, bringing the total number of food items with price increases for the year to over 20,000. Teikoku Database, a Japanese data company, surveyed 195 major food and beverage manufacturers nationwide, inquiring about their intentions to raise prices. The results show that 1,477 food items will see price increases in the Japanese market in November, approximately ten times the number in the same period last year. The price increases mainly include processed foods and beverages, with an average increase of 17%. This brings the total number of food items in Japan that have already increased in price or are about to increase in price this year to 20,327, exceeding 20,000 again after 2025.
