Israeli President Isaac Herzog will begin consultations on Wednesday with representatives of the various political parties whose members have been elected to the 26th Knesset. Herzog will also receive the final election results from Central Election Commission Chairman Noam Solberg on the same day. Traditionally, the president will choose the candidate he deems most likely to receive a majority in parliament, rather than automatically appointing the leader of the largest party. Authorized candidates have 28 days to form a coalition government, with the possibility of a 14-day extension. Herzog has previously stated his intention to take creative measures to avoid another election in Israel. If a candidate receives the support of at least 61 members of parliament, the president is expected to authorize them to form a government. If no clear majority is secured, Herzog is expected to choose the candidate he deems most likely to form a government, regardless of the size of their party or the amount of support they receive during the consultations.
