President Paz signed a decree on Oct. 31 declaring a national emergency to
address El Nifio-related drought in parts of Bolivia and to prevent flood risks
in coming months. The measure mobilizes economic and human resources, boosts
interagency coordination and seeks international cooperation to meet affected
households’ needs and limit disruption to livelihoods and production.
Sixty-three communities are reported drought-affected; livestock are suffering
from feed shortages.
