Private property consultancy Cotality said Australian home values fell for a seventh consecutive month in October, down 1.4% MoM and down 8.1% cumulatively over the past seven months, pushing toward the largest decline in 40 years. Brisbane posted the largest October fall at 2.0%, followed by Perth -1.7%, Sydney -1.6% and Adelaide -1.2%. Markets expect the Reserve Bank of Australia to lift borrowing costs again next week. Cotality research head Tim Lawless said mid-sized capitals that saw outsized gains over the past six years are now broadly adjusting, with almost all suburbs in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide down over the past three months.
