A Blackstone-led investor consortium has agreed to acquire a $3.1 billion stake in the liquefaction business of LNG Canada from a unit of Mitsubishi Corporation. Mitsubishi will remain the controlling partner and retain its full LNG offtake. LNG Canada is Canada’s first and only large-scale LNG export terminal; in September a Shell-led investor group approved a plan to double export capacity to 28 Mtpa. Project partners have been seeking to sell equity to raise expansion funds.
