British International Investment (BII) will deploy roughly £2.25bn (~$3bn) over the next five years into some of Africa's highest‑risk markets that large global institutions typically avoid. The allocation equals one quarter of BII's planned £9bn Africa program and is part of its 2026–2031 strategy. CEO Leslie Maasdorp said BII will partner with local firms to deepen financial markets and remove barriers blocking capital flows to companies and infrastructure. He noted many African sovereigns are rated at least four notches below investment grade and several are unrated, placing them outside the mandates of investors such as Prudential, BlackRock and Brookfield Asset Management.
