Italian Prime Minister Meloni's final pre-election budget includes a small exit
tax targeting wealthy residents who leave Italy. The measure is in a
cabinet-approved budget bill and still requires parliamentary approval. It is
expected to raise under €4m in its first year (~$4.5m) and is presented as a
populist move to capitalize on public discontent over persistent price rises.
The announcement coincides with official data showing inflation surged last
month, markedly higher than other European peers, and large cost-of-living
protests from Rome to Milan that disrupted transport.
