According to the Daily Telegraph, election observers sent by the U.S. Department of Justice to polling stations have been asking voters some "unusual questions." The Trump administration has unprecedentedly deployed 1,000 monitors and observers to all 50 states to ensure compliance with federal voting laws in the midterm elections. According to an analysis by The Washington Post, two-thirds (approximately 89) of the areas selected by the Justice Department for monitoring are Democratic-controlled, 29 are Republican-controlled, and 5 are swing voters. The Telegraph interviewed a voter at a polling station in a Latino community in Austin, Texas, after he complained that a poll watcher gave him a "threatening look" when he went to vote. The newspaper subsequently interviewed the poll watcher, who denied threatening anyone and stated that she was there to ensure the smooth conduct of the vote. She clarified that she was a local volunteer, not a poll watcher.
