For the Democrats to gain control of the Senate, they must first retain the seats they currently hold. Of the 13 Democratic seats up for re-election, Georgia, Michigan, and New Hampshire are the most competitive. In the 2024 presidential election, the margin of victory in each of these three states is less than three percentage points.
Currently, Democratic candidates maintain a lead in all three states; however, only Georgia is progressing rapidly in vote counting, with 63% of the votes already tallied.
