New York Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee (DSCC), is optimistic about the Democrats winning a Senate majority. Based on preliminary vote counts, Democrats could win up to eight seats. Gillibrand stated, “I’m just optimistic that we can win at least four seats tonight…and ultimately maybe four to eight. I’m very excited right now. We’ve seen some very good preliminary results. The chances of winning have been steadily increasing and building over the past few months.” She attributed the Democrats’ strong performance in the preliminary counts to the strength of their candidates and “the toxic political environment created by Trump.”
