AP reports Democrat Gina Hinojosa will win the Texas governor's race, defeating
three-term incumbent Greg Abbott. With about 67% of votes counted, Hinojosa
leads 57% to 42%. In the nation's most popular, traditionally Republican state,
Republican rule after more than 30 years appears to have been broken. Hinojosa,
52, is a lawyer and state representative; she entered the race viewed as a weak
candidate while Abbott was seen as politically adept and well-funded. Her
campaign gained momentum amid voter dissatisfaction with Trump administration
policies and concerns over the GOP's stewardship of the economy.
