Mujtaba Khamenei said U.S. oppression of the Iranian people dates back more than
70 years, citing the Aug. 19, 1953 coup as aimed at securing U.S. access to
Iran’s state resources, particularly oil. He said U.S. actors continued
attempting to plunder Iranian wealth after the 1979 Islamic Revolution,
established the SAVAK secret police and strict security controls to enable
repression, and used various measures before the revolution to try to preserve a
U.S.-backed government.
