The Democratic Republic of Congo is seeking investor participation in $12 bln of
power projects over the next five years to ease electricity shortages that are
constraining growth, the national power utility said. Projects cover generation,
transmission and distribution, including development of the Inga hydro complex —
which could exceed 40,000 MW and become the largest facility of its kind —
alongside other grid infrastructure. The utility said mining sector expansion is
driving strong investor interest and that talks with financial institutions have
been extensive and optimistic; government data show about 3,350 hydropower sites
with theoretical capacity near 167,200 MW.
