President Isaac Herzog said he will designate a lawmaker to try to form a
government on Sunday but has not named a candidate. In parliamentary
recommendation votes Gadi Eisenkot’s camp led Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc 67-46,
but Herzog warned inter-party and intra-bloc vets mean the recommendation
tally does not by itself determine who can form a government. He will hold
direct talks with party leaders to assess formation prospects and seek a stable
new government.
