Patrick De Haan, an oil expert at GasBuddy, a fuel price tracking agency, predicts that the national average price of gasoline in the United States may fall below $4 per gallon by next week. He also predicts that diesel prices may fall below $6 per gallon by Thanksgiving. Tom Kloza, chief energy advisor at Gulf Oil, also predicts that the average price of gasoline in the United States will fall below $4 per gallon within the next 10 days. As of November 5, 2026, the national average price of gasoline in the United States was $4.10 per gallon, down $0.02 from the previous day, down $0.27 from a month ago, but up $1.02 from a year ago. Both gasoline and diesel prices in the United States have declined in recent weeks. Patrick De Haan believes that the decline in U.S. gasoline prices is due to several factors: 1. Market optimism that the issues driving up oil prices will be resolved after the midterm elections. 2. Increased tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has alleviated the global oil supply constraints. 3. As autumn arrives, Americans reduce road trips and summer travel, causing gasoline prices to typically fall. 4. Gas stations in the United States have begun switching to winter-grade gasoline, which has lower production costs than summer-grade gasoline.
