Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy said two oil tankers struck mines and caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after attempting to transit via unauthorized channels and disabling navigation and positioning systems. The IRGC said the vessels, located in the eastern strait and inside the channel, had regulations violated; both exploded and repeatedly remain ablaze. The statement warned that any vessel cooperating with the US and entering Iran's restricted zone would be at risk of striking mines.

Three senior U.S. Justice Department officials resigned after the 2026 midterm elections, U.S. media said, marking an expected wave of departures. Attorney General Todd Blanche on the 6th announced the resignations of Southern District of Florida U.S. Attorney Jason Redding Quiñones and Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg. A day earlier Blanche had confirmed the resignation of Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Hamit Dillon; Dillon notified the White House in October and agreed to stay through the election. Dillon’s spokesperson said he will return to his firm, Dillon Law Group. U.S. outlets said departures were unsurprising after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress, leaving the Trump administration in a “lame‑duck” position and prompting some officials to return to higher‑paying private practice.
