According to Yonhap News Agency, by the end of the first half of this year, the total amount of large deposits exceeding 1 billion won in the South Korean banking system approached 1,000 trillion won, reaching a record high. Data from the Bank of Korea shows that as of the end of June, the total amount of savings deposits exceeding 1 billion won in South Korean banks (including time deposits, fixed deposits, corporate demand deposits, and savings deposits) reached 960.115 trillion won, an increase of 91.635 trillion won from the end of last year, representing a growth of 10.6%; and an increase of 138.702 trillion won year-on-year, representing a growth of 16.9%. Strong export performance from South Korea's leading industries, such as semiconductors, has led to a significant improvement in corporate performance, resulting in an increase in idle funds deposited by companies in banks. During the same period, the number of large deposit accounts increased from 100,000 at the end of last year to 102,000, also a record high. Large deposits accounted for 50.6% of the total savings deposit balance, exceeding half for the first time since June 2022.
