Canada's finance ministry said it will add U.S.-made copper wire and charcoal to a 50% retaliatory tariff list, replacing previously removed fish and seafood. The Carney government says the expanded measures aim to cover an annual import value roughly equivalent to the impact of the U.S. 50% tariffs, about $20bn. U.S. tariffs took effect last Saturday; Canada's countermeasures take effect on Sept. 8. Finance Minister Shang Pengfei said fish and seafood were removed after consultations with the Canadian fishing industry. The ministry also added certain U.S. glass containers, printed pictures and gypsum bricks to the 50% tariff list.
