A Wall Street Journal survey of 13 economists shows a median forecast for South Korea's August CPI at +3.3% YoY, up from July's 2.8%; MoM expected +0.4%. Deutsche Bank analysts say elevated cost pressures continue to pass through to consumer prices and improving incomes are adding demand-side inflationary pressure. The Bank of Korea attributes part of August's acceleration to base effects after telecom fee discounts a year earlier lowered the comparison. South Korea's August CPI is due Wednesday.

Hong Kong stocks closed lower after a weak open. The Hang Seng Index fell 0.93% at the close and the Hang Seng Tech Index slid 1.49%. Mainland bank names outperformed: Postal Savings Bank (01658.HK) +2%, Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (01398.HK) +1% to a record high. Building-materials and cement names showed pockets of strength, Huaxin Building Materials (06655.HK) +8%. Biopharma outsourcing names rallied, GenScript Biotech (01548.HK) +7%. Optical-communications names spiked then pulled back; Xizhi Technology-P (01879.HK) rose over 8% intraday. New-energy vehicle makers, battery suppliers, ports and copper miners were active. PCB-related stocks fell, Dazu CNC (03200.HK) -7%, Kingboard Laminates (01888.HK) -5%. Property names extended losses, Yuexiu Property (00123.HK) -7%. Robotics, OLED, marquee internet names, AI application and chip sectors were among the weakest. Nio (09866.HK) -6%. New listing Xiyin-W (00625.HK) closed down 0.12% on debut.
