Early June 1 the IDF said it intercepted a rocket launched from Lebanon toward Israel’s Upper Galilee. The IDF also fired an interceptor over the northern city of Kiryat Shmona against a suspected Hezbollah-operated drone; the effectiveness of that intercept is under assessment. The IDF said it carried out an airstrike on a Hezbollah rocket-launching position in Lebanon in the early hours. Multiple air-raid sirens sounded in northern Israel since dawn.

At a Brussels briefing on June 1, the EU called on Israel to stop military escalation in Lebanon and to respect Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging continued diplomatic efforts to secure long-term stability. On UNIFIL’s authorization, which expires end-2026, the EU said it is studying a new EU security and defense mission to help Lebanon strengthen state control and border security.
