Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara said on Thursday the government expects the Bank
of Japan to implement appropriate monetary policy, in close coordination with
the government, to achieve a sustainable 2% inflation driven by wage growth.
Asked about Governor Ueda’s recent remarks, Kihara declined to comment on
specifics and said the government and the BOJ have maintained—and will continue
to maintain—full communication, citing last month’s meeting between Ueda and
Prime Minister Takaichi. He reiterated that specific monetary policy tools are
for the BOJ to decide, reaffirming the government’s longstanding stance.
