The USDA expects US imports of Mexican sugar to reach up to 1.15 mln mt in
2026-27, sheinbaum said on social media, a 512% increase versus 2025-26. The
figure appeared in a USDA supply-and-demand report published July 10. At current
prices the additional volume would generate up to 47.6 bln MXN (about $272 mln)
for Mexican producers. US demand for Mexican sugar fell to roughly 200k mt in
the cycle ending September, down from over 1 mln mt in the cycle ending 2022,
prompting Mexico to open talks with US authorities in November.
