Japan's Sapporo District Meteorological Observatory said at about 11:07 local time on the 22nd a very small eruption occurred at crater 62-2 on Mount Tokachi in the Daisetsuzan range, sending a black ash plume about 200 metres high. The first eruption at Mount Tokachi since 2004 produced roughly 45 seconds of volcanic tremor and an observed air-pressure shock.

Japan's 40-year bond auction on Wednesday posted its strongest demand since March 2025, with a bid-cover ratio of 2.82x versus 2.702x at the prior auction and a 12-month average of 2.55x.
