Ortex Technologies data through Tuesday show short sellers have roughly $15.5bn
in unrealized profits since SpaceX’s mid‑June IPO after the share price dropped
below the $135 IPO price from a post‑IPO high of $225.64. "There is currently no
sign shorts are covering SpaceX positions," Ortex co‑founder Peter Hillerberg
said. "If anything, they are adding to them." About 360 million SpaceX shares
have been borrowed, roughly 56% of the free float. Last Friday Elon Musk said
companies holding large, long‑dated short positions in SpaceX have a very low
probability of survival.
