Ortex Technologies data through Tuesday show short sellers have roughly $15.5bn
in unrealized profits since SpaceX’s mid‑June IPO after the share price dropped
below the $135 IPO price from a post‑IPO high of $225.64. "There is currently no
sign shorts are covering SpaceX positions," Ortex co-founder Peter Hillerberg
said. "If anything, they are adding to them." About 360 million SpaceX shares
have been borrowed, roughly 56% of the free float. Last Friday Elon Musk said
holding companies large, long‑dated short positions in SpaceX have a very low
probability of survival.
