ONS data show UK retail sales rose 1.0% MoM in June (consensus -0.3%) and 4.2% YoY (consensus 2.3%). ONS senior statistician Hannah Finselbach said demand was strong for outdoor goods, air conditioners and clothing, and online sales of sports goods were robust. The report notes household inflation has fallen to its lowest in over a year as fuel and food prices decline, and labour market weakness is showing tentative signs of stabilising. ONS cautioned the recovery remains fragile; the recent breakdown of a US–Iran ceasefire has revived concerns about higher energy bills and rising mortgage costs.
