Iranian military spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi said the US has failed to achieve its objectives "in the Strait of Hormuz and in weakening Iran," state television reported. Shekarchi was quoted as saying: "For the US, the situation is chaotic and not ideal." He added that Washington's withdrawal "depends on the permission of Zionists," an apparent reference to Israel.

Iraq will sign an agreement with Syria to build a pipeline linking domestic oilfields to the Mediterranean for crude exports, an official statement said. The cabinet authorised the Basra Oil Company general manager to sign a memorandum of understanding with Syria’s Ministry of Oil on the project. It also instructed the oil minister to sign an MoU with a ConocoPhillips–TI Capital–Novaterra consortium to start exploration and development assessments of the Akkas oil and gas field and surrounding areas.
