Chief Executive John Lee said on Aug. 11 this year is the opening year of the national '15th Five-Year Plan' and that the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is an important entry point for Hong Kong to integrate with and serve the national development agenda. The SAR government will use Hong Kong's 'one country, two systems' connectivity to support high-quality GBA development, assist mainland GBA and other provincial firms in expanding overseas, and attract international high-end talent and capital to boost growth. Public consultation on Hong Kong's first five-year plan closes Aug. 14; the government plans to publish detailed measures next month.

Westpac chief economist Luci Ellis said the RBA's decision to hold rates met expectations but its guidance — "only prepared to raise rates if upside inflation risks materialise", firmer than May's "if necessary" — has effectively lowered market odds of further hikes. Westpac now expects rates to remain on hold through mid‑next year, citing inflation and labour‑market data running below the RBA's May forecasts. The bank describes the move as a "hawkish pause" rather than a loosening; a small chance of further hikes this year remains, conditional on energy-related cost pass-through or escalation in the Middle East.
