China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) published six merger-review cases today as part of efforts to curb “involution” competition, including Tencent Holdings' acquisition of a stake in Ximalaya and TCL Zhonghuan New Energy Technology Co.'s acquisition of a stake in Yidao New Energy Technology Co. SAMR said it has launched a special action this year to boost antitrust review efficiency, prioritizing merger-control scrutiny in platforms, photovoltaics and lithium batteries, and will lawfully support M&A to unlock idle assets and improve operating efficiency while maintaining fair competition.

Despite record income tax receipts, UK government borrowing in July rose year‑on‑year as spending increases outpaced higher receipts, the ONS said. The government budget deficit for July was £1.8 billion, up £0.7 billion from July 2025. Fiscal‑year‑to‑date borrowing stands at £56.7 billion, down £6.0 billion year‑on‑year but £2.3 billion above the Office for Budget Responsibility’s forecast.

China's Ministry of Finance said fiscal-financial measures to boost domestic demand have been refined and will take effect Aug. 1. The interest-subsidy scheme will now cover newly issued working-capital loans within the existing loan-subsidy framework for small and micro enterprises, and will extend subsidies to newly incurred credit-card installment consumption — explicitly including car purchases and home renovations — allowing consumers using credit-card installment plans to receive interest
