China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) published six
merger-review cases today as part of efforts to curb “involution” competition,
including Tencent Holdings' acquisition of a stake in Ximalaya and TCL Zhonghuan
New Energy Technology Co.'s acquisition of a stake in Yidao New Energy
Technology Co. SAMR said it has launched a special action this year to boost
antitrust review efficiency, prioritizing merger-control scrutiny in platforms,
photovoltaics and lithium batteries, and will lawfully support M&A to unlock
idle assets and improve operating efficiency while maintaining fair competition.
