Its center was about 160 km WNW of Xuwen county (Zhanjiang), with peak winds near the center of force 8 (18 m/s). The system is expected to loop in the Beibu Gulf overnight Aug 21–22 and strengthen somewhat, then turn east toward the Qiongzhou Strait from Aug 23 and weaken slowly. Guangdong provincial flood/drought/wind emergency headquarters activated a Level‑IV wind emergency at 20:00 on Aug 21.
