China is compiling a new-generation, full-Mars geological map, Hou Zengqian, academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief scientist for the Tianwen-3 mission, said in an interview at the 2026 Deep Space Exploration (Tiandu) International Conference on the 3rd. He said Tianwen-3, a key step in China’s planetary exploration program, aims primarily to search for potential traces of life, could become the first successful Mars sample-return mission in history, and should have its final landing site confirmed by end-2026.

MOFCOM spokesperson Huang Ling said at a regular briefing on the 3rd that China views recent U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent remarks and the use of multilateral forums such as the G20 to hype alleged "economic imbalance" and "overcapacity" as essentially a push for protectionism and a pretext to pressure and restrict China. China firmly opposes this, saying it will disrupt the global trade order and harm global economic development. MOFCOM urged countries to uphold multilateralism, strengthen policy communication and coordination, expand openness and cooperation, jointly maintain stable and unobstructed global production and supply chains, and pursue mutually beneficial outcomes.
