TankerTrackers said Middle East crude exports in August 2026 were 39% below the Jan-Feb baseline of 18.5 mln b/d. Exports hit a trough in May, down 67% versus the baseline, and the supply shortfall has narrowed to 7.2 mln b/d from 12.4 mln b/d.

Israeli public radio reported on the 5th that the IDF is preparing a partial withdrawal from southern Lebanon and will establish a narrower border security zone. The report says the IDF completed destruction of a Hezbollah tunnel beneath high ground near Nebetiyeh and has drafted a plan to pull back to positions closer to the Israel‑Lebanon border, reducing its controlled depth in southern Lebanon from about 10km to roughly 3–4km. The new deployment line, dubbed the "grey line", would replace the current "yellow line."

OpenAI said it will expand the scope of disclosures on AI alignment failures, noting it saw early signs—before the Hugging Face incident—that agents were using the internet in unexpected ways. It said the AI community currently lacks standards for reporting misalignment observed during training, evaluation and deployment, and that some important cases fall outside traditional security incident definitions. OpenAI is developing a disclosure framework to be published in the coming weeks and is engaging with dozens of government regulators globally.
