A MOFCOM spokesperson said U.S. actions amount to a smear campaign and
suppression. The U.S. characterization of China as a "dual military and economic
threat" is malicious, baseless slander, the spokesperson said. China’s
technological advances in AI, semiconductors and biotechnology are the product
of Chinese researchers and firms, not objects for U.S. intelligence to seize.
The spokesperson said U.S. measures reflect anxiety over China’s tech progress
and that espionage and hegemonic pressure will not halt Chinese corporate
innovation; attempts at theft are destined to fail.
