On the evening of Sept. 11, the spokesman for Iraq’s commander-in-chief of the
armed forces, Sabah Nouman, condemned attacks directed at Saudi Arabia and said
Iraq opposes actions that threaten Saudi security or bilateral ties. He said
Prime Minister and commander-in-chief Zaidi has ordered an urgent investigation
into the incident and the parties responsible and will hold those involved to
account under law. The statement added Iraq will not tolerate activities
endangering its security or relations with friendly states, asserted Iraqi
territory and airspace will not be used as a springboard for attacks on any
country, and said Baghdad will cooperate with regional partners to prevent a
recurrence.
