On the evening of Sept. 11, the spokesman for Iraq’s commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Sabah Nouman, condemned attacks directed at Saudi Arabia and said Iraq opposes actions that threaten Saudi security or bilateral ties. He said Prime Minister and commander-in-chief Zaidi has ordered an urgent investigation into the incident and the parties responsible and will hold those involved to account under law. The statement added Iraq will not tolerate activities endangering its security or relations with friendly states, asserted Iraqi territory and airspace will not be used as a springboard for attacks on any country, and said Baghdad will cooperate with regional partners to prevent a recurrence.
