On Sept. 14 at the opening of the IAEA’s 70th General Conference in Vienna, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency signed a cooperation agreement on high-temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGRs). The agreement covers R&D, design, construction, commissioning, operation, supply-chain collaboration and workforce training, and provides for sharing China’s HTGR engineering experience internationally to support deployment in power generation, industrial heat and hydrogen production in low-carbon applications.

U.S. Treasury yields rose across the curve in Asian trading ahead of Wednesday’s Federal Reserve rate decision; the 10-year briefly topped 5% on Monday for the first time since October 2023. LSEG data show markets assign a 93% probability to a 25bp hike. Tradeweb reports the 2-year yield up 4.4bps at 4.676% and the 10-year up 6.2bps at 5.021%. An ING rates strategist said: "Logically a rate hike should calm the long end, however the long end is often extremely erratic."
