Al Jazeera quoted Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, Iran's army chief of staff, saying the strategically important Strait of Hormuz is "completely under our control." He said Iranian forces have taken decisive action north of the Sea of Oman and in the eastern strait and will not allow passage. Sayyari added the IRGC navy has "full control" west of the strait, the strait itself and the Persian Gulf, while the regular navy has "full control" east of the strait and the northern Indian Ocean.

At the midday close, China's main futures contracts were mostly lower: lithium carbonate and Shanghai silver fell more than 5%; live hogs dropped over 4%; red dates, palladium, Shanghai gold and glass declined around 3%; coking coal fell over 2%. Winners included container shipping (Europe route) up nearly 7%, methanol up over 4%, fuel oil up nearly 4%, propylene up over 2%, and LPG, DCE soybean No.1 and polypropylene up more than 1%.
