The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Henri Kagan and Kenso Soai.

Chile's state copper company Codelco said it has referred the new findings to the prosecutor's office and commissioned a new independent external audit to determine the scope of the problem, responsible parties and potential economic impact.

Seoul announced a K-GX (Korea Green Transformation) energy-transition and decarbonisation plan to 2035 with a headline price tag of 1,000 tln won (~$747bn). The plan reportedly includes 200 tln won of fiscal spending, more than 790 tln won of climate financing and a further 220 tln won of private-sector investment. Targets include 100 GW of renewable capacity by 2030 and electrified/hydrogen vehicles to exceed 70% of new-car sales by 2035. Policy support will focus on green steel, batteries, solar, wind, hydrogen and small modular reactors and aims to accelerate decarbonisation of the five highest-emitting sectors: steel, petrochemicals, refining, cement and semiconductors & displays, while developing 10 green industries including EVs, power semiconductors and carbon capture.
