Amazon said on Wednesday it eliminated about 250 positions in its Devices and
Services unit; a person familiar with the matter said the number did not exceed
250 and was concentrated in software development. The company said the
reductions aim to improve operating efficiency and better align teams with the
product roadmap after recent launches including a new Kindle e-reader and
tablets. Earlier this month Amazon cut roughly 1,000 roles in its core retail
unit. Amazon will report third-quarter results after U.S. markets close on
Thursday.
