The U.S. implemented 50% tariffs on more than 100 categories of Canadian goods effective 00:00 ET on the 15th; Canada’s retaliatory tariffs have been in place for several days. Carney said a trade agreement with the U.S. will be reached only when Canada’s interests are respected and the timing is right. He added Canada will begin talks with the EU next month to build a security and economic alliance.
