A Tencent source said the launch timing for a WeChat AI agent is uncertain and will depend largely on the pace of regulators' approval. With WeChat's roughly 1.4 billion users, the compliance review could be more stringent than for other products. Tencent had no comment. Media reports that the project is an internal top-priority, highly classified initiative in preparation since at least 1H 2025 were confirmed by a Tencent source.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office said Japan and the Philippines announced planned maritime boundary talks for waters east of Taiwan that seriously infringe China's maritime rights, violate international law and are illegal and invalid. The office urged cross-strait compatriots to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity and accused Taiwan's DPP authorities of relying on external forces to sell out national interests, saying they will be repudiated by compatriots and punished by history.
